FAQ

So what exactly are eyelash extensions?

Haven’t you heard? Semi-permanent eyelash extensions are a year-round ‘must have’ for the fashion conscious! Lash extensions draw more attention to your eyes than mascara alone, and 24/7, so you’ll look fab when you wake up, after your workout, in the office, on the beach…

One lash at a time, we’ll frame your eyes with a long, thick, luxurious set. Single strands of high quality synthetic lashes are applied onto your natural lashes to enhance and extend. Our lash artists create a bespoke look, using a variety of extensions to build the right volume, length and curl for your unique style.

And what’s the difference between ‘lash extensions’ and ‘cluster lashes’?

Lash extensions are individual synthetic strands, curled like natural lashes – but better! Cluster lashes are made up of 3-4 strands fanning out from a “bulb” glued on to your natural lashes.

So, cluster lashes are more difficult to blend in with your natural lash line… and they’re usually lower quality, too. You’ll likely find cheaper rates for cluster lashes – and if you see them applied, you’ll know why!

How long will my extensions last?

With proper care, your extensions will last 4-6 weeks. You should expect to shed most of them throughout the growth cycle of your natural lashes. We recommend coming by for refills when your extensions begin to look sparse.

Be warned, lash extensions are incredibly delicate – so give them the TLC they deserve! Exposure to steam or extremely hot water, and touching, picking, or rubbing your lashes can weaken the adhesive bond on your extensions.

So what about these refills?

Refills are like touch-ups for your extensions. Performed regularly, they’ll keep your lashes looking full and luscious. You may need them more or less often depending on how well you look after your extensions, your natural lash cycle, and the style of your initial set.

Typically, clients get infills every 2-3 weeks, however some clients prefer to replace their full set every 4-6 weeks.

Will it hurt?

No! When properly applied, lash extensions should NEVER hurt! Extensions are applied to your natural lashes, not touching the skin, so you shouldn’t feel a thing. With your eyes closed, you may even find the treatment so relaxing that you fall asleep! Well, you wouldn’t be the first...

How should I expect my extensions to feel?

To the untrained eye, no one will know you’re cheating on your natural lashes. And your secret is safe with us! Gone are the days of mascara clumps… Your lashes will be clean, separated, perfect!

You should not feel any pain or discomfort in or around your eyes after the procedure. We’ve seen clients after previous dangerous or poorly applied lash applications performed elsewhere, and they have experienced clumping, pain, discomfort, or damage to their own natural lashes – this is not normal!

How long does it take?

We’re perfectionists here at EyeMakeItHappen Image Concierge. You can expect us to be meticulous, concentrated and precise. From design through application, the process will last approximately 60-90 minutes.

My lashes are sparse/short/fine/curly – will that be a problem?

Most clients are good candidates for lash extensions, no matter what their concerns. However, the style our artists will help you create may vary depending on your natural lashes. If you’re really concerned, consider a free consultation with one of our technicians to discuss a design that best suits your lashes.

Can I have eyelash extensions if my lashes are sparse, short, fine, or curly?

In the majority of cases, most clients’ lashes are good candidates for lash extensions. However, there may be limitations to the type of look achievable if your natural lashes are particularly sparse, fine or curly. For example, a healthy strong straight host lash is needed in order to attach the extension properly and lashes that have severe bends may not be viable for extensions.

Help! I got eyelash extensions from another salon and I‘m in pain/they look terrible/I just need to get them removed, pronto!

You poor thing! Call us immediately so we can remove your old extensions! We’ve rectified work by other salons many times, often when a client is in immense pain or discomfort from improper application. We will happily remove your old lash extensions, and if you wish, apply a new set.

I’m a mascara junkie. Can I still use it over my extensions?

Most clients don’t find it necessary to wear mascara with eyelash extensions. However, if you must wear mascara, we advise using a water-based formula. DO NOT USE OIL-BASED OR WATERPROOF MASCARA!! (Oil-based eye makeup and makeup remover should also be avoided.) Oil based products can dissolve the bonding agent used on your extensions, causing the lashes fall out sooner.

Can I have extensions applied to my bottom lashes?

Quite simply, no. Applying lash extensions to the bottom lashes would require clients to keep their eyes open. For safety reasons, we do not condone this practice.

Do I need to prep my lashes before I come in?

Yes, please! Make sure your eyelashes are squeaky clean – no traces of eye makeup – prior to your appointment. Use an oil-free make up remover if possible, and rinse well.

Any traces of oil or makeup (especially mascara!) will create a barrier between the adhesive and your natural lashes, causing your extensions to drop off prematurely.

Why do different salons charge different prices for lash extensions?

Many salons claim to offer eyelash extensions, but in fact provide “professional application” of shop-bought cluster or strip lashes. These salons charge lower prices for a 5-10 minute application of a substandard product.

What about different lash brands?

I’ve heard Jinny Lash/Lash Perfect/Extreme is the best on the market.

There is no discernable difference between the different lash brands. The most important factor with lash extensions is the skill of your technician, not the brand of the lashes themselves.

Can I get lashes that last beyond 4-6 weeks?

The lifespan of your extensions will depend on wear and tear, lifestyle, natural lashes, skin type, etc. All of these factors will affect how quickly you shed your natural lashes and the extensions.

Longevity also depends on the glue used to apply your lashes. The stronger the glue, the stronger the bond, and the longer your extensions will last. The downside to strong glues is an increased chance of adverse reactions. The stronger glues have vapours that may cause severe tearing, itching, stinging, swelling of the eyes, and allergic reactions. As such, we do not use these glues, and do not recommend extensions applied this way!

Can I get a half set?

We get numerous requests for half sets, or “just a few in the corners.” Here at EyeMakeItHappen Image Concierge, that’s not really our style! More lashes add definition, fullness and longevity to your set. Incomplete sets are often difficult to blend in with your natural lashes, resulting in a look that appears unfinished. Trust us! We know our stuff!

How do I care for my eyelash extensions?

To keep your lashes looking gorgeous as long as possible, we recommend you follow your therapist’s aftercare advice. The key points:

Avoid contact with water or steam for 24-48 hours after your appointment to allow the glue to cure. The longer you wait, the better! If you must shower, clean around your eyes and avoid getting water onto your lashes.

Avoid exposing your lashes to prolonged heat, as this can weaken the bond and cause your extensions to fall off. No steam rooms, saunas or Bikram yoga!

Only run a lash wand or brush through your extensions gently. If they are getting a little unruly, you may also separate and tidy your lashes using a toothpick, ideally after a shower.

Avoid using oil-based products around your eyes
